Oil on Linen Panel
Size: 30 x 23 inches | 76 x 60 cm
Painted between 2013 and 2014, this portrait of ‘a young Leonardo’ was commissioned by the Italian publishing house Giunti, and is now in the private collection of Dr. Sergio Giunti.
The portrait is based on various known and accepted depictions of Leonardo, with liberties taken in regards to his hair and eye colour, as only one contemporary source makes a reference to his long curls being 'fair'. It should also be noted that contrary to popular belief, Leonardo did not have a beard until he was in his mid-fifties, and took great care in his appearance, spending quite a lot of money on extravagant and expensive clothes made from different types of leather, linen, wool and silk throughout his life.
